About Rude Insect

Rude Insect is a small, independent gardening site built by people who actually grow food. We started it because the gardening web is drowning in regurgitated Amazon listings written by people who've never assembled a raised bed, fixed a leaky drip line, or had a vole eat their lettuce starts.

Every product we recommend is one we've used, tested, or vetted with serious diligence. If something looks shiny on the box but rusts after one Pennsylvania winter, we say so. If a $40 compost thermometer is every bit as good as the $180 lab one, we'll tell you that too.

How we make money

We use affiliate links — including Amazon Associates and direct retailer partnerships. When you click a "Check Price" button and buy something, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it never changes our review. Plenty of products we've tested didn't make it to our recommended lists.
